Our Favorite Healthy Eats in Ubud

Ubud, Bali is a hub for wellness, which is one of the things we loved most about spending 2 months there. Anywhere where we can drink affordable smoothies, wheat grass shots and eat raw brownies is a good place for us to spend some time!

There are a ton of great restaurants to try while you’re in Ubud, but here are a few of our favorites:

1. Kafe

This was easily the restaurant we ate the most while in Ubud. It’s right on Hanoman (the main street in Ubud) with a lower level and an upper level with an adorable patio. They have good wifi and it’s a cozy place to spend a few hours and enjoy a good meal.

While most of the menu is vegetarian, they do have some chicken and fish dishes, and even a hamburger on the menu for you meat eaters. There are a ton of GF options, big healthy salads, local food and a good selection of Mexican dishes.

Some of our favorite dishes included the red rice nasi goreng, Meg’s big bowl salad, and the tempe cashew nut curry, paired with the purple orange booster smoothie!

The sister restaurant, Garden Kafe, is located at Yoga Barn and has nearly the same menu. If you’re practicing yoga at Yoga Barn, make sure you stop in at Garden Kafe for a smoothie or some GF pancakes!

2.Taco Casa

The best Mexican food in Ubud! Taco Caso is only about 5 minutes walking south of the entrance to Yoga Barn and it’s worth the short trek. They make a lot of their products in house (like their corn chips), and they have a good selection of Mexican food from tacos, to fajitas, to burritos, to burrito bowls.

With each of your meals you can choose from veggie, chicken, beef or shrimp, and all of the dishes are relatively affordable for the amount of food you’re getting.

There are also locations in Seminyak and Canggu, so you can enjoy delicious Mexican all over the island!

4. Kismet

If you are looking for a good cocktail, a delicious smoothie or a really good veggie bowl, this is your place! The entire time we were in Ubud, Kismet had a delicious jack fruit bowl on their menu and we kept going back for more. The price point is a bit higher than some of our other favorites, but it was always worth it for us.

They also have a really well thought out system to ensure good service, and they accept Bitcoin, which are 2 big perks in our books.

5. Bali Buddha

The delivery service isn’t the greatest, but the in-house service is good. We mostly went to Bali Buddha for their fabulous GF pizza. If you are GF and have been craving pizza, this is your place.

They also have a marketplace next to the restaurant that has a solid selection of snacks and baked goods.

6. Atman Kafe

This place may just have the best avocado toastie in town. They have amazing GF vegan rice bread, great nasi goreng, and really good GF pizzas. The entire menu is vegetarian, but they offer up some great veg alternatives to some meals that are usually meat based.

The vibe here is chill with tons of small, lounge style tables. There are 2 locations on Hanoman, one across the street from Kafe and one closer to Klear Kafe at the north end of Hanoman. The only thing that prevented us from eating here more was that the service is really slow.

7. Habitat

Habitat is located across from Hubud, the coworking space we were members at for the entirety of our 2 months there. It’s slightly over priced due to it’s proximity to Monkey Forest, but it does offer up a good breakfast, and an interesting twist on some of our favorite dishes from Vietnam. If you’re in the area, we would recommend giving it a try!

7. Earth Market

Shout out to Mad Pops and Bootstrap Cold Brew Coffee! These were a highlight of being in Bali, and the primary reason we visited Earth Market so frequently. But, if you’re in search of Activated Charcoal, good lip chap, organic chocolate, or prenatal vitamins, they’ve got you covered!

8. Sayuri

Sayuri offers up raw, vegan food and does it wonderfully. They have amazing smoothies, smoothie bowls, and daily specials. If you are into raw, vegan food, you should definitely check this place out. We spent a lot of time and a lot of money here because it was so damn good!

The best meal we had in Ubud came from Pica South American Kitchen. The price point was high (but worth it) so we could only afford to go once, and the food was very high quality. We also enjoyed the jack fruit tacos from it’s sister restaurant Cantina, and would recommend Clear Cafe at the north end of Hanoman if you need to switch up where you’re eating!

Happy eating friends!
