There are plenty of things to love about traveling, but it’s not as if every aspect of going on a journey is fun. While you’ll ultimately remember the things you see and do, there will be times, during some trips at least, when you have to just ride out some boring moments. For example, during a layover at an airport. You may get lucky and only have to wait a small amount of time, but if you go on enough trips, then eventually you’ll have a long layover. So what do you do when you have hours to kill at an airport? Let’s take a look.
People Watch
While there’s space to look inward and think things over, there’s also a lot of value in looking outward, and seeing what other people are doing. Airports are filled with people moving from A to B, and they can be interesting to watch, just as they can be interesting to watch anywhere else. You’ll see people vastly different to you, people who are going on a different kind of trip than you are. Wear some sunglasses, and no one will ever know! You could even look at striking up a conversation with someone if they look like they’re receptive.
Connect With Home
When you’re traveling, you’ll nearly always just be thinking about what’s in front of you. But let’s not forget that all your loved ones back home are still there! And they will be looking forward to hearing from you. So why not use the time you have to kill at the airport to make some phone calls/video calls to people back home? If it’s been a while since you spoke to them, then you might end up on the phone for hours…perfect!
Catch Up On Shows
It’s unlikely that you’ll be setting too much aside to watch television shows when you’re on the road. There’s just so much to see and do! But in the airport? That’s a perfect opportunity to catch up on the shows you love, providing you have earphones (tip: always take earphones when you’re traveling!). Of course, if you’re traveling internationally, then you may be unable to watch the shows if they’re geo-blocked in that region. There’s a simple solution for that, however — Troypoint have provided a useful guide on how to set up a VPN, so you can watch your shows no matter where you are. Of course, be sure not to get stuck in a television show binge — otherwise, you might miss your flight!
Tour the Airport
If you’ve got a long flight ahead of you, then why not use this opportunity to stretch your legs? You can’t go too far, sure, but you can always tour the airport. If you’re in one of the larger airports, then there’ll be plenty to see — restaurants, shops, arcades, and perhaps one or two surprise elements, too. Virtually everywhere is interesting if you look closely enough, and this includes airports. Plus, you’ll tire yourself out for the flight!
Happy travels!
