People often ask us why we love to travel so much! Here are 5 reasons we love to travel:
1. Trying New Food
Food is one of our main motivators when it comes to traveling! There is nothing quite like eating Thai food in Thailand or getting fresh tortillas from the lady on the corner in Mexico, or eating arepas in Colombia. So much of the what we love about being in a new place is experiencing the local dishes, discovering new foods we love, trying things we’ve never had before, and getting to know a destination through it’s local foods.
2. Experiencing New Cultures
We love arriving in a new place and getting to know the culture – the way in which people interact with one another, the holidays they celebrate, family traditions, what people do with their friends on the weekend, the work culture and so on. This is one of the things we love about slowing down our travels. We have the chance to spend a longer period of time in a culture and really get to understand the nitty gritty and ins and outs of the local people.
3. Meeting New People
Some of our closest friends we’ve met while traveling, and it’s amazing to have friends spread across the world from all different places. One of the things that we’ve always loved about travel is the people we meet. It’s amazing to cross paths with someone somewhere in the world and share really unique and special memories with them. The people you meet in a place can completely change your experience, and for us, so many of our most amazing memories come from the people we’ve met along the way.
4. Seeing Pieces of History in Real Life
Learning about history and world events is boring when you’re reading it in a book, but when you can visit a place and see the history first hand it has so much more context and meaning. Seeing things like Pearl Harbor, the Berlin Wall, the Killing Fields, Parliament Buildings around the world, and many other historical places has so much more meaning and power when you can stand there and feel the weight of what you’re feeling. We love using travel as a way to learn about the history of the world, and this is one of the things that we love most about traveling.
5. The Personal Growth
If you listen to the podcast, you know that traveling for personal development is something we’re big on. Regardless of the intention of a trip though, you will grow as a person while traveling. Travel is tiring, uncomfortable, and it constantly pushes you to move outside of your comfort zone, fend for yourself, deal with language barriers, and more. Travel is amazing for changing your world view and your perspectives on the world and helping you grow immensely as a human.
