The Sanctoo Villa: A Hotel Review

We arrived at the Sanctoo Villa and were immediately greeted by 2 staff members at the front who provided us with cool towels to wipe our sweaty faces and a refreshing welcome drink to sip while they checked us in.

After we had finished our welcome drink, we were taken by buggy to our villa. The villa was absolutely beautiful. A spacious bedroom with the traditional Balinese high ceiling with a king bed facing out to our private infinity pool. The bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom with a large stone bathtub, a shower, toilet and two sinks.

Being long-term travelers, we rarely splurge on ourselves, and being at this villa felt like the luxurious break that we needed. We immediately pulled on our bathing suits and took a dip in the pool before hanging out on the deck to read in the sun.

Although The Sanctoo Villa is located right next to the Bali Zoo, it is quiet and feels very secluded. Everything is very private and we hardly saw another soul the entire time we were there.

After relaxing for a few hours, we were treated to dinner at the hotel restaurant, which is located over a bridge that is over a number of waterfalls. The restaurant had a nice ambience, and we were able to sit at a table that overlooked the jungle. Once again, we were surprised by how private and secluded it felt being right next to the busy zoo full of families.

Our meal was amazing! We had a tasty ahi tuna dish, chicken, and the best mashed potatoes we’ve had in a long time, topped off with molten chocolate lava cake! We left feeling pleasantly full, but wanting more (especially the potatoes!).

We spent the rest of our evening enjoying the amenities of our villa, before heading to bed. Our first full day at The Sanctoo Villa was spent enjoying The Bali Zoo, but we did have some free time in the afternoon to swim and relax by the pool before we headed to the spa for massages.

We both got treated to a 60 minute Balinese massage, and it was the best massage we’ve both had in a long time. A day at the zoo is certainly not strenuous, and life in Bali is generally pretty relaxed, but if you have some tension from battling traffic between Ubud and Denpasar, stop in for a massage at The Sanctoo Villa spa – you will not regret it!

One of the best parts about staying at The Sanctoo Villa was having breakfast delivered to our guest house on our final morning there. The staff brought us plates filled with eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh baked bread, coffee, and fruit, and we were able to enjoy it all in our bathrobes looking out over the pool and into the jungle.

We were sad to leave The Sanctoo Villa, as it had felt like the getaway that we had needed. We left feeling relaxed, refreshed, and like we had slept better than we had in weeks. If you need a break from the busy life of Ubud, Kuta, Sanur or Denpesar, we would definitely recommend The Sanctoo Villa.
