Summer Hikes in Banff & Canmore: A Photo Blog

We are wrapping up another amazing summer in our little mountain home of Canmore, AB just outside of Banff National Park and wanted to share the outdoor adventures that we’ve been up to over the last 5 months. This place is beyond photogenic so we felt like the best way to share what we’ve been up to is in photo form! Enjoy!

We started off summer with a hike up Taylor Lake, where we encountered snow for the first time in a few years! Nevertheless, the views didn’t disappoint.

We made our yearly trip up Ha Ling and were reminded of how hard this hike is! It doesn’t matter what kind of shape we’re in, this hike is hard, but the views are totally worth it!

We made a trip out to Troll Falls in Kananaskis! This is an easier hike and could probably be classified more as a walk than a hike, but it was still a really nice half day trip with some beautiful waterfall views.

There’s nothing quite like the view of Lake Louise on a sunny day! The trek up to Little Beehive is a great hike, and also rewards you with beautiful views of the lake. This is a must-do hike in Banff National Park for sure!

Sunshine Meadows is one of our favorite hikes! We paid to take the Gondola up, which means it wasn’t free, but the hike is gorgeous and the views were totally worth it. This was one of our summer highlights.

Grassi Lakes is a local favorite here in Canmore and something that we get out and do at least once a year. The path up has a steadily incline and it rewards you with beautiful views at the top!

Helen Lake was a new hike we did this year and it was an absolutely beautiful trek! We felt like we were in Lord of the Rings the entire time and that at any moment we were going to happen upon elves! This is definitely a hike that we would recommend!

Wenkchemna Pass was another new hike for us this year and it was amazing! We started at Moraine Lake and made our way up to Eiffel Lake and then onwards to the pass where we had views of the mountains and vallys on either side of us. This is a hike we would definitely recommend!

Tunnel Mountain is one of our favorite local hikes! It’s about 1.5 hours return and you get amazing views of Banff and the Bow Valley. It’s perfect for summer and fall days and great if you don’t have a ton of time for hiking, but want to get a workout in and some great views.

We headed up to Lake Agnes tea house as one of our last hikes of the year. It was a chilly one, but the path was clear and larches were in bloom! One of our favorite things about fall in the mountains is when the larches turn yellow. Another great aspect of this hike is that it starts at beautiful Lake Louise!

We are excited for another winter of travel before we can get back to the mountains for another summer of great hiking!
