After spending 7 months living in Mexico City, we’ve had a lot of time to try a number of different restaurants and bars and find some awesome places to eat & drink in the city.
We already did a 10 Amazing Restaurants in Mexico City post, so this one will be an addition to those places, of course.
Mexico City: Dining Out
Romelia Bar
This place was right around the corner from our apartment and we frequented there a ton, because it’s THAT good! The restaurant is cute, the staff is friendly, the prices are right, and the food is amazing! The menu changes a couple of times a year, but some of our favorite things to order there are the guacamole (obviously!), the tuna tostadas, the smoked salmon salad, and the papas bravas. Anything you order will be delicious though!
La Docena
This place is known for it’s oysters, but if you don’t like oysters, there is probably still something for you on the menu. They have a ton of different options, from sandwiches to salads to tostadas, and everything we had there was delicious! On top of that, you can get a litre of Caesar! For anyone who knows me (Amanda), you know I love a good Caesar, and was in complete Caesar heaven!
Rocco & Simona
Rocco & Simona serves really delicious pizza and is located in Polanco! One of the highlights for us is that is serves gluten free pizza and this is one of the only places we were able to find in all of Mexico City that does a gluten free pizza crust. There are a ton of options on the menu, and the pizzas go perfectly with a glass of wine!
Izakaya Sushi
This quickly became our favorite place for sushi in La Roma. The restaurant is cute and the sushi is good (it’s no Japan, but it’s good!). On top of that, they have 2 for 1 sushi Monday through Wednesday and discounted ramen on Thursday’s. We went here pretty much every time we craved sushi while in Mexico City and it never disappointed us.
Mythos
Mythos is owned by the same people who run Ouzeria (on our 10 Amazing Restaurants in Mexico City blog post) and the menu is similar, but the vibe is a bit different. Mythos has a location in Roma / Condesa, as well as in Polanco and we really enjoyed everything we ate here! It’s a bit of a higher price point, but it’s totally worth it for quality Greek food!
Casa de Toño
Casa de Toño is well known in Mexico City and is popular with both tourists and locals. There are a few different locations in Mexico City, but we mostly frequented the one in Juarez / Zona Rosa area. Casa de Toño serves up a mean pozole, and excellent enchiladas, and the best part is is that it’s really fast and super affordable.
QueSeriaDeMi
This place serves up a delicious brunch! Be prepared to wait for a table because it’s small and it’s super popular, especially on weekends. It’s popular for a reason though – the food is delicious! You can get more American breakfast foods or traditional Mexican breakfast foods. Both are great options!
Mexico City: Quick Eats
We spent most of our time in Mexico City working, so we often needed to get food quickly. The cheapest way to get quick eats in Mexico is from a bustling street vendor, which you can find on pretty much every corner. For us, we were looking for something quick AND healthy, and these were some of our favorite quick & healthy eats:
Green Grass
Make your own salads for less than 150 pesos?! Umm yes please! This place is so awesome, and was one of our most frequented lunch spots! You can choose your style of salad, and then everything that you want in it. It’s big, hearty, reasonably priced, and a great way to practice your Spanish vegetables!
Frutos Prohibitos
Frutos Prohibitos has sandwiches, salads, smoothies, and juices and is a great place to grab a quick and healthy lunch for an affordable price. You can find them all over the city and they are always a safe bet for a solid meal!
Delirio
There are a couple of different Delirio locations in CDMX, but we frequented the one on Colima in Roma Norte. The staff are super friendly, the food is great, and the coffee is excellent. This is a great place to grab a pastry and a latte, or to stop and get a sandwich or salad.
Mexico City: Drinks & Cocktails
Limantour
There are 2 locations of Limantour in Mexico City – one in Polanco and one in Roma Norte. Being that we lived in Roma Norte, we only had the chance to visit that one. It is a really popular bar in Mexico City and has been rated as one of the best cocktail bars in the world. This is a fun place to go in the evening with friends for a cocktail and a snack!
La Clandestina
This place does a mean mezcal cocktail! Our favorites were the cucumber one and the avocado one. The prices are a bit steep for a cocktail in Mexico, but they are definitely worth it. La Clandestina is located in Condesa, but they also have a sister bar in Roma Norte called El Palenquito with a very similar menu.
El Deposito
El Deposito is also in Roma Norte on Obregon, and it is a great bar for draft beer! They have a ton of different options all the time, and on top of that, they also have a whole beer fridge, which includes some gluten free beer and cider options.
Huset
We went to Huset for cocktails a couple of different times and every time we really enjoyed ourselves. You can get everything from beer and wine, to an assortment of really good and unique cocktails. The price point on the cocktails is a bit high, but it’s worth it for the quality. Huset also has a beautiful seating area where you can get lunch or dinner if you want to eat while you drink!
