On this episode of the podcast, we’re off to Cambodia. We had read that the border crossing between Thailand and Cambodia was hectic, but we truly had no idea just how crazy it would be until we arrived there. Fortunately, we made it to Cambodia unscathed, and were happy to arrive at the luxurious (and affordable) Golden Mango Inn in Siem Reap. While in Siem Reap, we spent 2 days exploring the breathtaking Temples of Angkor. This archeological park is from the 9th and 15th centuries, and is made up of all the different capitals from those times. Each king wanted to show off his capital with an extravagant temple, which is the reason there are so many incredible places to visit.
After 2 days at the Temples of Angkor, we took a terrifying bus ride to Phnom Penh, where the uncomfortableness grew with our first (and only) encounter with bed bugs. The uncomfortableness continued as we spent a day learning about Pol Pet and the Khmer Rouge. We visited the killing fields and the S-21 prison where millions of people were tortured and killed during the 1970’s. Needless to say, it was a dark day that left us both feeling guilty and uncertain as to our purpose in Cambodia.
Join us as we discuss our time in Cambodia, our experiences at the important historical sites there, and our views on tourism in Cambodia.
Enjoy!
